Dave,
Where was the event, on the i or the HMC? It seems to depend if you
get a call or not, but if it is serious, I have always gotten a call. You
didn't say if you were alerted as well, but you can set the HMC up so that
it will also alert you. Go to Service Management, and then Manage
Serviceable Event Notification. Enter the address of your SMTP Server (if
you are using outlook on your PC desktop, you can usually go into properties
for your mailbox to find this information out, along with the port) and the
port (most likely 25). Then add some email addresses, and when an alert is
sent to IBM, it will also be sent to you. We have called customers up
telling them of problems as we have seen them come over on our phones before
they read their email.

Subject: HMC serviceable event
We had a "serviceable event" occur on our HMC this weekend. It appears to
have successfully contacted IBM. Will I typically get a call from IBM,
like I do for support on the i if an error occurs, or do I need to follow
up with IBM support on this? This is the first time I have seen this.
