you have an option in endjob for max log entries - change to a small number... 1
This will keep it from taking forever (if job log is what it is tied up in)
Also, if ended "controlled" the delay time should be short.

We've got a batch job that we canceled from WRKACTJOB, *IMMED, and it
seems to be taking forever to go away.

Any idea why? It doesn't have any spooled files.

There's SQL (and possible sql errors) involved, if that has anything to
do with it.
