In the past I have tried to give away (to charitable organizations and such) everything from a System/3 to an iSeries (hoping for at least a tax write-off). The only taker I ever had was for a S/34 which I gave to our maintenance vendor for simply pulling his pickup up to our back door and hauling it away. I even had to help him load it on the truck.
About the only appeal these old machines have is for possible parts. We still have a 720 sitting in our back room because our owner "knew" he could get better than the $700 I offered him for it three years ago. Lately he asked me what I'd give for it (it's at v5r1); I said I'd haul it away for him.

Obsolete... That model maxes at V5R3, which limits its appeal. Mainenance charges for those machines is more than its worth....

How do I permanently shut down an AS400 model 720 which has an internal
UPS?
I did the PWRDWNSYS restart *no.
Do I then just pull the plugs?
I'm planning on just trashing the machine after smashing the disk
drives.
Do I need to treat the batteries as hazardous waste?
