No,

The iSCSI / IxA attached use the System i disks. There are no disks
in the PC. In fact, you can't have AFAIK.

Gotcha. I didn't read thoroughly enough. Had my caffeine and sugar too.

With the IXA / iSCSI route, you don't use the i's disk drives for
storage, right? Those attached PC's have their own hard drives, don't they?

Jeff,

We're talking IxA and/or iSCSI.

Both of which are way to attach an external PC server. The IxA uses
the HSL card already in the system, while iSCSI requires a signle
iSCSI HBA card in the system.

I prefer them over IxS since they don't take as much space inside the
System i and the PC's tend to be higher performance.

Could it be that the BP meant there were no available card _slots_ in
his system?

That's the condition I'm in. My 0595 expansion unit is full. It would
cost me twice as much to add a single IXS card added to my 520 as it
would to install a 1U x3550 server.

All,

A former employer is looking at a new 515. Their current 270 has some
IxA attached xSeries boxes that would need to be replaced by iSCSI
attached xSeries.

The BP they are working with is saying something about the "cards" not
being available. I assume they mean the HBA cards for either the i5
or the xSeries.

Anybody else heard this?

Thanks!
