You're right Jerry. I didn't read it closely enough before I posted. FTP is limited to file transfers and won't provide record-level access. You can, however, use it to append a file to an existing file.

Scott's idea of using a VPN for the secure connection and then using ODBC sounds like a good approach.

Charles,

In your original post you said you " want to allow one of our partners to connect to a DB2 database file located on our iSeries, using SSL, to write records". This doesn't sound like an ftp process, but I'm no ftp expert.

ODBC set-up (Windows Control Panel...Administrative Tools...ODBC...) has an option to allow the connection using SSL. Define your ODBC connection, there is a "Connection Options..." button. The SSL option is towards the bottom (Windows XP).

Subject: Re: How to configure SSL external access to a database?

Hi!

How is it possible to write records to a database file using secured ftp?

Charles

You can do <http://archive.midrange.com/midrange-l/200808/msg00281.html#>
secure FTP and write records to a database file.

natively? Must we buy a third-party database tool and install it on our

server?
If it is possible to do it natively, is there any step-by-step tutorial that

shows how to configure it?
Thanks for your answers
