I suppose I should have pointed out that if you can assume that you'll never have more than a certain
number of notes, then you don't need the UDF. You could simply

Select a.po#, coalesce(b.note_txt,'') concat ' '
, concat coalesce(c.note_txt,'') concat ' '
, concat coalesce(d.note_txt,'') concat ' '
, concat coalesce(e.note_txt,'') concat ' '
, concat coalesce(f.note_txt,'')
From potable a
Left outerjoin notetable b on a.po# = b.po# and b.seq# = 1
Left outerjoin notetable c on a.po# = c.po# and c.seq# = 2
Left outerjoin notetable d on a.po# = d.po# and d.seq# = 3
Left outerjoin notetable e on a.po# = e.po# and e.seq# = 4
Left outerjoin notetable f on a.po# = f.po# and f.seq# = 5

Which one, UDF vs. the above, will perform better is up for grabs... <grin>

Tim,

Anything is possible...with enough effort, time, and/or money!

In you case, what you need is a User Defined Function (UDF) that returns a
string containing the notes
concatenated together.

You could write the UDF in either SQL or RPG; then it'd simply be a matter
of
select po#, concatNotesUDF(po#)
from potable

A good place to learn about UDFs is this redbook, "Stored Procedures,
Triggers, and User-Defined
Functions on DB2 Universal Database for iSeries"
