You would determine it based on the IP address. If it's not one of your internal subnets, it's from outside.

Yes outside meaning not in the building or in any of the plants.
Is there a way to determine this?

Define "outside". Are we talking 5250 only? If so, then the common
resolution is to put an initial program there that uses the IP address of
who signed in and logs that. I forget the name of the API, but if you
scan the archives for RTVIPADR you'll probably find it.

If you want to trap anything that may show up in NETSTAT *CNN that's not a
local address that's a different ball game. That should include not only
5250 (which is telnet or port 23) but also ftp, shared folders, etc.
Traditionally it was done by the vast myriad of exit points (hence the
Power Locks, NetIQ's, BSafe, etc). Not sure if there is a way to log
NETSTAT *CNN. WRKSYSVAL QAUD* perhaps?

Subject
Checking who enters the system

I am looking to produce a report that would show who signs in from
outside
on a daily basis,
Is this something I can get from checking the History log (DSPLOG) file or
is there a better or more efficient way to do this?
Thank you,
JN
