Thanks, Evan. That's a start.

Finding out what's running isn't too hard: I can do that just by doing a 
WRKTCPSTS *CNN.

But what about starting automatically? And finding out (without actually 
doing an IPL) whether it's set to start automatically?

I see that the QSTRUP program on that box has a
   QSYS/STRSBS SBSD(QSERVER)
in it. What I can make out from the manuals is that this is supposed to 
start Host Servers, but is that right? And what about the fact that the 
QSERVER subsystem is started long before TCP is started?
