Barring the addition of any new data being added did you do anything else?
Like, is the 3581 running from the same card that ran the 3570? If not,
did you move the new card on to the same bus that is serving disk drives?
That can be a real killer. Moving the tape drive card to a different bus
than what services the disk drives can be a huge performance boost.

I've never used GO ASSIST to do a backup. I did some research on
Infocenter at V6R1 and the doc looks pretty skimpy. I didn't find any
obscure data areas, etc to store whether or not to use compression.
