Subject: Re: SQL Case Statement With Exists
Is there another way of achieveing the same result.
Assuming two things:
1 - you want to set a field to Y or N based on the existence of the record
in intpty
2 - this is a one-time operation to 'prime' the new field
I would do this in two statements to keep it simple:
Update rskr05 set newfield='N'
then
Update rskr05 set newfield='Y' where exists(select polnoi from intpty
where polbrr=polbri and poltyr=poltyi and polnor=polnoi and pollor=polloi
and polrir=polrii)
May not be fancy, but should work fine in this situation.
