With all due respect, the last release that a model 4xx would
support was
V5R1.

Tim,

How old of a box are you on?

When I upgraded an old model 400 (first gen RISC) to v5r2(?),
which was the
last version with support
for it, I noticed a considerable slowdown.

Contacting IBM support, we were eventually told that v5r2 was
just not as
optimized for the older
hardware as prior versions had been.

Luckily, the upgrade to v5r2 had been done in preparation for
a move to a
new 270. So we didn't have
to live with the issue for very long.
