Hmmm, good point a lot of employer's are blocking Facebook now BUT then
again there are a lot that are not. Isn't IBM, Microsoft and other big
players using it for collaboration between employees? (at least I think
I read that somewhere) Personally I think this makes sense BUT
unfortunately a lot of us have a skewed view of the social network space
towards unproductive behavior. Bottom line, if you are going to be
unproductive you will find ways to waste your time (on OR offline).

In terms of iSociety why try to reinvent the wheel when the platform is
already there and free to use. IBM may then be able to use the piles of
tools now being developed for facebook in conjunction with iSociety for
a better idea on the state of the market and what people are looking
for.

I also think we midrange guys, as a community, need to open up a little
more to what is going on outside of what many of us have known for
years. The Internet is now a platform and this platform is going to/is
being used to deliver software that may be compiled using functionality
from many different providers.

In any event, I think Facebook has a solid platform for productive
business networking. Isn't this one of the main goals of iSociety?

To put it simply, it sucks.

I was trying to think of the right words, but you pretty much summed
it up
for me too :-) The iSociety concept is great, the iSociety website
sucks.
I quit trying to make sense of it after the mess of trying to get a
COMMON
user id drove me nuts. I know I have been signed in, but have since
forgot
my profile and I don't wish to go through that process again (maybe it
is
better now).

I also agree with the rest of your sentiments.

BTW, I just signed up for Facebook and think your idea of creating a
midrange group on there is great! Does anybody already have one
started?

iSociety seems like it can be a great tool to connect to the community
but it is clear that this is a much better tool.

I have some inherent problems with iSociety's functionality. To put it
simply, it sucks. I feel they would be more successful simply starting
a
Facebook group and using that platform as a base. The NetVillage
solution is just terrible. The forums are not useable, and most of the
other functionality is buggy as hell. I feel like I am using a system
from the old Internet days. Isn't this the view IBM is trying to get
away from?

Just my two cents.

iSociety vs. this forum? Please contrast and compare.
