You are right, they do "frown" on the practice - and I certainly understand
why. However, we have run these programs for over 8 years and have not had
a problem (I think we may have had to modify a key length when we went to CM
for iSeries 5.3).

If you run across api's that do this, I would love to hear about them. I am
always eager to hear from other CM folks.
