James,

I use OSX all day every day. In the last few releases, I got more
functionality, but I cannot say it is getting smaller or less demanding.
iWeb, for example, has got more functionality, and seems to be larger than
before. iWork08 has Numbers, and there is more space used there. I am sure
that when I installed Tiger, I had less available disk space after the
install.

Certainly, on the hardware side, my Intel Core 2 Duo means I run everything
a lot faster. Publishing Angus was 4 to 6 hours on my PowerBook (G4) but it
only takes about 10 minutes now.

I think the comparison is that OSX uses the CPU and memory better, so each
subsequent OS release has improved in that regard, for sure.

microsoft continues to improve its products.

If you call making each release more demanding on the hardware, and more
intrusive, with few (if any) new benefits for the user "improving" . . .

Anybody notice that MacOS X seems to be getting smaller and less
demanding with successive releases?
