Hi Aaron! To be honest, I haven't used OpenOffice much myself. I've been doing
some writing for MCPressOnline lately, and Victoria seems to prefer
submissions in MS Word format. The only editor I have that writes in that
format is OO. (I tend to stay well away from any MS software!)

Anyhoo, yeah, it's been more than three years since I've been here. In case
anyone has been wondering, here's my story: In the summer of 2004, there was
a big re-org at the lab, and I ended up working on the PL/X compiler for the
zSeries. At the time, I was asked not to comment publically on the re-org, so
I left all the on-line groups I was subscribed to. The PL/X project was
challenging, but over time, I hated the work more and more. Finally, in June,
I quit. My plan was to relax over the summer and look for a new job in the
fall. Well, it now be fall, and so it's time for job hunting. Based on my
recent experiences with zSeries, there's nothing I'd like better than to work
in an iSeries shop!

So, in a nutshell: I'M BACK!

Cheers! Hans

Hans! Haven't heard from you in awhile.

I have been using OpenOffice extensively over the past 9 months and it is a
great tool 95% of the time. There are some things that are "buggy" that
don't make a huge difference, but are annoying none-the-less (i.e. I can
only get Tools->Word Count to work when I initially open the document. If
I try to do it after I type another 100 words it doesn't give me any sort
of update).

Also, when working with Power Point and Word documents it seems the OO
doesn't communicate the same x and y coordinates for some things (i.e. I
might have an image centered on the page in Word, and when I edit it in OO
it is slightly off to the right).

But for the price (free) you can't beat it. Even with it's short comings I
will continue to use it. Now I wish open source would come up with
something equivalent to Outlook (i.e. email, calendar, notes, to-dos, etc)
