have a few modest applications that ran quickly & well?

That's the general idea. It seems that computers get higher capacity hard drives, more memory, and faster processors every year, but laptops running Windows Vista in 2007 seems to run more slowly than laptops running Windows 3.1 in 1992. It seems that the hardware can't keep up with the resource requirements of software these days.

The thin-client computing model changes that. Your laptop may only have a 700 Mhz processor and 256 Meg of RAM and no hard drive but the device powers up quickly, you see your desktop quickly, and most of your applications are accessed via a Mozilla browser. The resource requirements of the laptop are greatly reduced. That doesn't mean all of your applications have to be light-weight, because they're server based.

Nathan.
