Yes that is the Ethernet address of your HMC on the Open port. Meaning ETH1
of the HMC.

There is a setting to allow remote connections, and I don't remember it off
the top of my head, and not by an HMC today. Remember this is on V7 only, if
prior you use WebSM.

Pete:

A belated thanks. Does "hmcaddress" mean the I.P. address? If so, I'm
missing something. I know the HMC address, the PC is on the same subnet
mask, I can ping the HMC, but (e.g.)

https://12.34.56.78/

in Firefox gets me "The server is taking too long to respond". For shucks
and grins I even capitalized the S in https, and of course no change.
Internet Explorer is the same.

If you upgrade to the new version of HMC software (you must be on 6.1.2
to
upgrade, also check your FSP code as well before upgrading) you can
access
your HMC remotely with httpS://hmcaddress . Its simple, its quick, and
it is
a great user interface. The HMC has so many advantages over any other
console, but yes it is the most expensive choice. We have upgraded
almost
every customer to this latest release of the HMC.
