It is worth the cost for mailtool. Also look at spooltool. We have them
and it is great and easy to debug issues.

There are 2 parts to this.. first the SNDDST command. That you know
is
successful and email is passed off to the SMTP server if the command
ends
without error.

The 2nd part is the SMTP server actually delivering the email. That
is
more
difficult to determine. I think someone said with V5R4 there are some
easier logs, otherwise you'll need to use the flight recorder,
tracing,
etc.. (yuck).

If you're open to 3rd party tools for email, check out
www.bvstools.com/mailtool.html. I created this a few years back
because I
got sick of SNDDST and the IBM SMTP server.

How do I monitor that snddst mail is actually successful?
This is an existing app sending mail, but operations doesn't know
of a problem till users complain of missing emails a day or so
later.
All mail is forwarded to an exchange server offsite.
Network management is mostly outsourced and they make changes on
their own that have affected us.
This is a V4R5 system
Have ended smtp server and reset msf many times, but don't see
how to find what is waiting to go, or what failed to forward.
