Not at all! The main server stays on line the entire time. You're restoring a previous copy of the disk image to a DIFFERENT directory then linking that to the server on the fly. The linked space becomes a new drive letter (i.e. F:). You then copy data from that drive back where you need it. Nobody knows you've done it except Sally who get's her busted spreadsheet back.
Mind you this isn't the best way of server backup and day to day restore but it works if that's all you have available at the time.
