RTVOBJD in CLLE subproc

I have a CLLE subproc that's only function is to used the passed library & 
object values in an attempt to return the 7 byte (Char) value for date 
last used via RTVOBJA.

I'm calling the CLLE subproc from an RPG program. Problem is that the 
value being returned is garbage. Even in debug of the CLLE (when called 
from the RPG), the LASTUSE return value always appears blank, even though 
the object does have a valid date last used attribute.

I know there are restrictions as to where you can use RTVOBJA but I had 
hoped that by using a subproc to a clle that I could return the date last 
used.

What am I missing?
