I understand that Visual Age has not gained traction. I do not understand why it hasn't.
The reason I like the Visual Age solution is that it fits so seamlessly with what you are already doing.
When faced with the same situation you face, we set some guidelines for ourselves first.
1 - It had to use our existing data. 2 - Users had to be comfortable with it. 3 - Severe disruptions were unacceptable. 4 - It had to be accurate. 5 - It had to be affordable.6 - People wanted instant change; we decided we could give constant change & improvement and show a pattern of successes. 7 - we wanted a solution where we could cherry pick what we would change to GUI, and not be required to have an all-or-nothing application-wide solution.
With VARPG we could give the sales people and bosses their needs with VARPG and not need to go back and redo all the standard stuff that already worked. As time went by we could swap out pieces of applications, with no real disruptions. In the end we were surprised how much we got done, how quickly it happened, and how happy the sales staff and bosses were with the true Windows applications.
