Sharon, THis is a piece of cake to do. It will take no longer then 5 minutes to do this, as I have done this before. Use the 2nd HMC port on the back of the i5, it will be HMC1. I assume you had plugged the HMC into HMC0 of the i5, so it now has the address of what was given by the HMC DHCP server range. Then plug an Ethernet cable from the back of your laptop into HMC1 of the i5. Configure your Ethernet port on your PC with a manual address of 192.168.3.1 and you can make the gateway 192.168.3.147. Then open up your browser, and enter HTTPS://192.168.3.147 and you will get the ASMI signon screen. Signon, and you can select to reset the FSP to factory defaults. I wouldnt do this during the middle of the day, and you should have your machine with power, but not running. Also, remember its httpS and not just http. You might get a message about certificates not being valid, just dismiss them. Hope this helps. I intend to reset to FSP to factory defaults. Its going to take awhile. Since the HMC is gone I can't get to ASMI. It wasn't setup to be reached via browser before we started. Trying to get approval now to attach my PC to setup ASM. I find it rather amusing that all the documentation on how to remove the HMC did not discuss this at all. Its going to be a long process. You might be better off, when you are in the ASMI interface to reset the FSP to factory defaults. Justins advise will solve how firmware updates are applied to the FSP. Probably couldn't hurt to remove the HMC-managedness of the entire CEC, but that's pretty heavy-duty stuff. You may want to call IBM on this one - it's not an easy task making a machine not HMC-managed in its entirety. It's easy to make the FSP updates managed by the OS, but to get the HMC=0 off the display will take some more work. Justin C. That was a complete failure since the box is capped (a different problem). So I removed the HMC and put the Ops Console back in and everything seemed great until.... I put on PTFs and some of them are the firmware updates. The system still thinks it is HMC managed even though it isn't. SST shows console as Ops Console. Any ideas what to do next before I call IBM?
