Pete,Thanks for the info - I posted the link (in this original post) for the official
IBM manual steps because others were discussing what to do, and I thought there was some incorrect info & guessing going on. <quote>but if your not running JAVA, who cares> <response> how do i know if i'm running Java in the OS?> I did a quick tour of various web sites today to see what problems were encountered (that someone would admit to...) and mostly it was cell phones, pda's, and some java applications... I've got a bit of a problem with the way IBM handled this exercise, or more precisely, the lack of clarity between patching an IBM OS, and patching IBM java built "stuff" (what you & I call OS & products). I did both the OS ptfs & the jvm ptfs, thinking there's some IBM java running & I have no idea if the OS ptfs covered it (and had to assume not). jim franz----- Original Message ----- From: "Pete Massiello" <pmassiello@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx>

Jim, One of the things you can do, which I hate to even bring up, is that you can change the timezone object itself. Using the command "CHGTIMZON timezonevalue", so that if you were in the Eastern US timezone, the timezonevalue would be QN0500EST (without the PTFs applied). Hit F9, and then page down, and you can set how and when the time actually changes. You just have to make sure that this timezone is the value in your Syetm Value QTIMZON. Remember you are changing the defaults from something standard to something different. Its easy, doable, and you won't see the clock spring ahead another hour begining of April. Remember, this would only take care of the timezone, and I think one of the PTFs also did something with the JVM for timezones as well, but if your not running JAVA, who cares.
