Unfortunately, lots of people have a tendency to say "that's a shame, but
that's the way it is". Me, I say it sucks and it should be changed. I
don't know how, but maybe it's grassroots efforts of people who say "this
has to stop."

Grassroots efforts work. If it wasn't for grassroots efforts like Numbers
USA, Microsoft would have pushed through a big hike in H-1B visas a couple
of days ago at the end of this Congress. They were pushing hard, but
Numbers USA had people phoning and faxing their senators to stop the passage
of Cornyn's sneak attack, and it was stopped. As was Hutchison's bill to
import another 100,000 foreign nurses.

Of course, that's probably all for naught now that Pelosi is the speaker and
Democrats are in power again, but the point is still valid: if something is
just plain wrong and you get that message out to the American people, they
can make a change.

No it isn't. Today's business requires an immediate return. Most
companies,
and certainly the majority of shareholders, don't care about long term
profits or stability. While I disagree with the current philosophy, I
think
it's reality. It's a shame, but that's the way it is.

I am SO tired of hearing about companies dumping perfectly viable
enterprises just because they aren't AS profitable as another venture,
out
of a "responsibility to our shareholders". Ah boooshwah. Your
responsibility to your shareholders is not to suck every penny out of
the
next 90 days, but to create a strategically sound financial base.
