Thank you all for the wonderful tutorial on CCSID management. It works fine now. This sort of thing is fundamental to changing the perception of the machine. Using the Easy400 MMAIL tool, I can now offer our users delivery of extracted data in the form of a pdf or csv directly via e-mail, and having found this technique for writing directly to the ifs, I've greatly simplified the process in the controlling CL as well. Like most times that I post a question, I found an answer about 5 minutes after hitting the send button. There is another QSH command called 'touch' which can also reference the QIBM_CCSID. I know that there are a number of CL commands that can reference the ifs, but it seems that QSHELL is an important tool to manage the ifs. I just find the command structures arcane and ambiguous, especially with the range of parameters separated by columns. Perhaps I've just become too used to the comfort of CL. Perhaps there is a growing need for a QSHELL list?
