Jim,
Is it fair to say this is a study of customers who >contacted Power
Tech, and not a random representative study >of the iSeries community? It is a self selected sample. I've heard people suggest that our results could be lower than the norm because people who run the assessment must think they have a problem. In some cases this could be true, but in other cases we will run the assessment on systems where the administrator is completely confident that their system is pristine. We have done over 600 of these Flash Audit's over the last three years, and the results are consistent enough for me to conclude that the study data is an accurate reflection of the System i install base. So, yes, it is fair to say that this is not a random sample. But I don't know how to get a random sample in this market without spending a million bucks with a polling firm (wait - I wonder if the critics would agree to call it a random sample if we could get everyone on the Midrange-l run the assessment? :) ). In any case, though the collection mechanism is not what I would like it to be, I still believe it is an accurate reflection of what the average System i security setup looks like today. jte -- John Earl | Chief Technology Officer The PowerTech Group 19426 68th Ave. S Seattle, WA 98032 (253) 872-7788 ext. 302 john.earl@xxxxxxxxxxxxx www.powertech.com Celebrating our 10th Anniversary Year! Is it fair to say this is a study of customers who contacted Power Tech, and not a random representative study of the iSeries community? I'm not trying to minimize the effect, put the percentages listed seemed high and some may read this as a study of the whole community.
