Vern and Luis,

Thanks for the link. I must have missed it (probably fat fingered the search without realizing it).

As Luis pointed out, I'm sure IBM would love to see a project like this go through. As would I; I only hear about DB2/400 -> Oracle conversions. I have a friend (ex-/400 programmer, now doing .NET and such) that simply rolls his eyes when talking about Oracle and its "vendor specific enhancements," though he does like SQL Server.

Don't know if I'll take the project: consulting being rather iffy and I like a steady paycheck (eating has become a habit).

IBM has a porting guide for going from Oracle to the i5 - start at this site

http://www.ibm.com/servers/enable/site/db2/porting.html

There is also a migration toolkit - I've not used it, so have no direct experience with it. The link has an experience report, so that might help.

While a database is a database, there are differences between Oracle and
DB2. This, though, is outside of my experience level so I thought I
would bounce this one off of you dudes (and dudettes). Anyone done this
sort of thing? If so, what are the processes involved? And is there
any documentation for it?

I suppose that, first, one would somehow download the SQL DDL from
Oracle and create the tables and views on the i5. Seems rudimentary
enough, even if there is no magical way to do this and it has to be done
by hand (though I think there should be a way to get the DDL to an IFS
folder). But how would one get the actual data to the i5? CPYF doesn't
seem workable; maybe CPYFRMIMPF? Or CPYFRMSTMF? I came across a
CPYFRMPCD but that looks like it's meant for Office/400 stuff.

Then, of course, there's the whole interface (presentation) layer. But
that's going beyond anything that I've been told about the project.

Thanks.
