I am using a Select Distinct embedded-SQL statement to derive some unique
values from a transaction file. At present, I have this statement which
produces a correct result:

Select Distinct COMPANY, PAYEE, VENDOR From TRANSACTIONFILE Where
Max(INVOICEDATE)

This results in a unique Company/Payee/Vendor record with the latest Invoice
Date. When I go the other way, I want to select the Company/Vendor record with
the latest Invoice Date, but this should only produce a single Vendor with the
latest Invoice Date and its resulting Payee:

Select Distinct COMPANY, VENDOR From TRANSACTIONFILE Where Max(INVOICEDATE)

How can I assemble my Select statement to get these distinct values, yet get
the Payee value too? The Payee is not distinct and should not appear in the
Distinct declaration... it's just the resulting value found in the otherwise
distinct record.
