David, On the report from CALL PGM(QSYS/QWCCRTEC), hex is not garbage. Ok, ok, most of it is :) The useful stuff is in column 90 (on my V5R3 machine) as it is the status codes and the date/time they displayed, as Joel mentioned in his earlier post. Heh, I didn't even know about the lines you mentioned. I always take the first and last lines and call it a day. I know it is not the "true" IPL time for completion and users getting back online, but at least it is a consistent measuring point when comparing IPLs. *XPF PWRDWN 06/18/06 02:15:32* and * 20 FF 0220 06/18/06 02:35:06* make for IPL time of 19 minutes and 34 seconds on one of our 520s http://www.google.com/search?q=QWCCRTEC+site:ibm.com has some decent, including a sample program to put the IPL time into a data area from an IBM redbook..
