I was looking for something to automatically update queries a year or so ago, and came across a program called UPDQRY by Jeff Yanoviak. It's an RPG program that will read a file listing query names/library, loop through it and edit and re-save each query definition. It uses WRKQRY through a virtual terminal. As regards error checking, it sends a message to the job log together with the query name, so you can check through that afterwards.
Very efficient - will process dozens of queries in a few seconds.
I think I found it on iSeriesNetwork.com - you may need a subscription to see it. Mick O'Hea ---------------------- I think you missed what we really want (from the first post - a tool to regenerate queries after a file change). These tools, QRYUSE and something like my simple tool only identify where a file or field is used. Unfortunately, after large scale file changes, we end up opening WRKQRY and bring each query up, one by one, option 2 to edit, f3 to save,..... It takes hours and hours.. A tool or api would have to have good error checking, because it is possible the file changes applied will cause some queries to have errors. What we really want is a "compile" command for queries. This point & click is so 'last century..' jim
