Jim,

You need to create an ODBC data source (on the PC side). Sounds like maybe you
have that part already. Then go into Access and tell it to use that data
source. In the data source you can tell it what libraries to look at. Sorry I
don't know the specifics - I don't use Access. In Excel, you go into the Data
menu and then tell it Get External Data. Perhaps there is something similar in
Access.

I took a quick look in Access 2003. Looks like you can go into File/Get
External Data/Link Tables then change the File Typa at the bottom to "ODBC
Databases" and you will get a dialog from which you can select the data source
you defined.

subject: ODBC connection with MS Access

I have an AS/400 9406-600 (stop laughing Al) running V5R2 and a
Gateway 2.9mhz pc w/ 1 gig memory running WXP Home. I'd like to use
MS Access 2002 to
data files on the 400.

I've apparently gotten ODBC configured because I was asked to supply a
password for the default signon (just like when establishing a session for
the first time each day) and it apparently made the connection. What now?
Where do I look to make the connection from Access? Should I see a new
entry under "My Network Places"? When I open a blank Access database and
say I want to link to a new table, should I see a new place for the data?

TIA.
