We have only a single large UPS for the entire computer room, so a problem with it would bring down everything. It'd be nice to take the redundancy all the way and have two large UPS. Then you could have each power supply plugged into a separate power strip and each power strip plugged into a separate UPS. Heck take it a step further and have two separate generators for each UPS ;-)

And 2 separate utility companies!

<g>
You say this in Jest but my neighbor worked for a company you would all recognize so I won't name them here. They have two feeds from different substations owned by different utilities. These pass through two redundant generators the size of locomotives. These pass through two UPSs with enough batteries to run a subdivision. These feed into a fancy schmancy box that will pull power from either UPS seamlessly. This box feeds, through a separate circuit breaker, every outlet in the DC. There are no duplex outlets. There are no power strips, none at all. Each outlet feeds one thing even if it's a modem. They have spent 'a ton' on this setup but at no time can plugging in a monitor cause other stuff on the circuit to fail, because there isn't anything else on the circuit. Ever.

Nonetheless while installing a new outlet one day they thought they had identified the correct breaker to flip off and did so. Down went the communications FEP to the mainframe. They lost world wide communications for almost a day.

Idiots -vs- Technology. Idiots win.
