Actually we are on 01SF225 but I don't think it makes a difference.  I
suppose I'll just go ahead and do my initial SAVSYS before I do the
Firmware upgrade.  SAVSYS on Dev. Partition, SAVSYS on Prod, bring down
partitions, upgrade firmware, cycle the system, CUM set on Dev, CUM set
on Prod, SAVSYS on Prod, SAVSYS on Dev.  Piece of cake.

When updating the firmware on the FSP from the HMC there really isn't
anything to be backing up. I assume you are on 01SF230 and upgrading to
01SF235, which will require an Cycle of the FSP, meaning that all
partitions will need to be down when this happens.
