Thanks, Birgitta. There's obviously a lot about SQL I don't know. I didn't make the connection between the SET in the manual and using it with a function. I couldn't make interactive SQL accept the statement so I'm testing it with embedded SQL. It gave me the "Procedure not found" error until I changed CHAR to VARCHAR. Now I'm just getting a decimal data error on the return value. Donald R. Set MyResult = Function(Parm1, Parm2, ... ParmN) Will do the job. It also can be used in embedded SQL. <clip>
