Hi Booth,

I'm pretty sure that the HP PSC 750 needs to be configured w/Host Print Transform, as an *HP520, if you want it to do anything more complex that basic text.

So, the IBM device type should be 3812. Then, TRANSFORM(*YES) and MFRTYPMDL(*HP520)

Of course, that all depends on how it's connected to the iSeries. If there's a PC involved or an adapter box, then that in between device could potentially change what needs to be set up in the configuration.

Your original question was about auto-configuration, and I'm no expert, but I don't think auto-config is able to set up all of the necessary parameters. I'm not 100% sure, that's why I've stayed out of it.

IBM has a great page with info about how to properly set up and get the maximum capabilities from an ASCII printer. You'll find it at the following link:
