The scholarship to attend COMMON is offered through the Education Foundation. The only link to that page, that I have found, is at the bottom of each page (www.common.org/foundation).

The scholarship is intended for educators: those who teach programming, design, etc., for the iSeries. There is another scholarship intended for students actually working towards a degree in IT. This is a tuition reimbursement scholarship, not one to attend COMMON.

1 - Instead of using your vacation, I would hope that your skinflint of an employer would at least allow you to have the time off without burning your vacation. Be nice if it was a paid leave of absence and not an unpaid leave of absence.

2 - The lug is a good idea. You might want to become a member. Most lug's will give you the COMMON number for simply paying your membership fees, even if you can't make the meetings. Start your own lug. Get one or two other companies to join to save on the COMMON membership alone.

3 - I think there's a scholarship available but I'm having a dickens of a time finding it.
