Remote journaling builds upon local journaling.

Remote journaling really isn't ;-)  A more accurate term would be "local 
journal replication to a remote system" as the local system still writes to a 
local journal.  Then those local journal entries are sent across the wire to 
the remote journal.


So you can't have "remote journaling" without having "local journaling"
