What level of software are you running on the HMC? We have not had to re-boot the HMC since it has been running V4.4. The last time it did require an unplanned re-boot was back at V4.3.2 - and that is an HMC controlling 4 systems, total of 19 partitions. I don't know about general consensus, but I know we don't tolerate our p5's locking up - if they did, we would replace them with something that doesn't lock up. The unplanned downtime on both our p and i systems are about the same - which is minimal.
