I did this last September. My detailed instructions dealt with finding
the new resource names on the new machine. Then there was a line like
"call the NT guy on his cell phone at .... and ask him to come in and
let's get this cleaned up".

I just talked to him.
Always use multiple windows drives. Put just the bare minimum of the os
on the first drive. Put anything that doesn't HAVE to be on that drive on
the other drive(s). When we moved, if we moved the same card - no
problem. But if the card took a different bios, then we had to reload the
OS drive. It's not down to the S/N level. And, some cards that had a
little faster processor were ok. But some of them did require reloading
the OS drives.

I haven't read the redbook suggested, but it might not be a bad idea.

Re: DR of an iSeries with blade servers; are blades fully

Rob,

You wrote: " Do you mean: "Has anyone did an unload/reload from an 830

up

some
manipulation was necessary."

The answer is yes. What manipulation? Do the IXS operating systems
and applications appear and work as they did? I hope a total reinstall
is not needed as that would eliminate any benefit of blade servers as
far as backup and recovery are concerned.

What are the steps? What are your experiences? Is the Redbook one
person suggested the best set of "instructions". I thought I'd try
these instructions and restore a backup of our Production LPAR to one of
our Test LPARs and see what happens, what it takes, and time frame to
restore. Only then do I think I'd have a true answer for the business
when they ask "How long would it take for us to recover from a
disaster?"

What about if I'd like to go from an 825 with 4 blades to another 825
with 4 blades? What if you didn't have all four blades on the target
825 or 570?

Thanks much,

Dave
