I routinely do PDF of spool files in the 800 page range. Interesting, because of the PDF compression capabilities, the PDF version is less than 1MB while the text version is 4.2MB. Additionally, since the program that does the report is old, the text version of it contains double printing (where the original writer wanted the text to be bold,) whereas the PDF doesn't have that problem.
scs2pdf handles this double printing nicely and produces bold text.
