Valid format for what?

If he has to use an API and all that entails then he might as well write an RPG program and be done with it.

These particular APIs are very easy to use, and very versatile. (See my previous message for an example.) I agree that calling an RPG program is another good way to do it -- but not everyone has an RPG compiler or RPG knowledge. Calling these APIs is certainly easier than learning RPG. And it really doesn't make sense to buy the RPG compiler just to add 1 to a date. Now if he's got something more sophisticated that he needs to do, RPG would certainly be a better alternative...

Does REXX have a function for this? That might be even easier?

I have no experience with REXX.
