Another possibility: If the AS/400 is hooked up with a monitoring cable, and it gets simultaneous "on-battery" and "weak battery" signals, it WILL, regardless of any other settings, go into an unstoppable "panic-shutdown" mode. It is much faster than any other kind of shutdown, but not quite as messy as pulling the plug. This happened to us several times on self-tests on a UPS that was a bit flaky. That UPS has since been traded up to a bigger one. And I have little widgets on the two AS/400s that are hooked up with monitoring cables, that interrupts the "weak battery" signal as long as line power is good (along with other widgets that fake an "on-battery" signal to the units without monitoring cables in the event of a power failure). -- JHHL
