"Scalability" needs to be pinned down a little more. And even "iSeries" and "s/390" aren't quite clear enough. Example... When IBM came out with the System/38, it was defined as "System/38 consists of a machine and three major IBM licensed programs: Control Program Facility (CPF), RPG III, and Interactive Data Base Utilities (IDU)." This is from IBM System/38 Technical Developments, topic "Introduction to IBM System/38 architecture". In the case of "iSeries", I'm not absolutely clear that OS/400 is part of the definition though I wouldn't think of it any other way. Beyond basic platform definition, scalability needs to take into account the system administration and management tools. For example, although it might be technically possible on a single iSeries to have two or three thousand interactive jobs running along with a few hundred batch subsystems with who knows how many jobs running concurrently, I'm not aware of OS/400 tools that allow decent administration of those jobs. Certainly few of us would appreciate scrolling through WRKACTJOB at that level regardless of whether it works or not. So, what kind of scalability are we interested in?
