Maybe create a module that does the work - if you insist on or need CL, sobeit, but it could be RPG. Bind it into the main CL module and CALLPRC whenever you need to. Not too useful if you need to return values, but would work when you do multiple *OUTFILE operations to the same file, then loop through it, say.
