IBM has a couple of certification tests for system administration on the iSeries: Command Operations and Single System Administrator. http://www-03.ibm.com/certify/certs/a4_index.shtml Each has a list of objectives. Study that. Suggested reading material: Basic System Operations http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/iseries/v5r3/ic2924/info/rzal2/rzal2kickoff.htm Security http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/iseries/v5r3/ic2924/info/rzahgicsecurity2.htm Work Management http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/iseries/v5r3/ic2924/info/rzaks/rzaks1.htm All of which are available at: http://www.ibm.com/eserver/iseries/infocenter Sign up for COMMON. Study the above material beforehand. Go and learn. http://www.common.org/ Failing COMMON there's IBM iseries and i5 technical conferences. They're real good. http://www-306.ibm.com/services/learning/ites.wss?pageType=page&contentID=a0000058&eventType=Conferences&eventGeo=United+States Although the website needs some SERIOUS work. Either that or I am looking at it too far in advance. Currently the "Agenda and Sessions" lists only the keynote speaker. If money is no object then there's IBM training. They do have a tendency to cancel classes if not full. We had someone signed up for a class this month and it happened. Why they couldn't convince a bunch of people to go to Rochester MN in February for training is beyond me. http://www-306.ibm.com/services/learning/ites.wss/us/en?pageType=page&c=a0000607 See System Administration and System Operations. Also, you'll notice another tab on that same site regarding certification. With newer systems, and certain packages, you often get training credits. We used some of these. One was to send a fellow to the IBM Technical Conference. The other was for the above mentioned cancelled class - some Websphere Portal thing.
