Al, The action said to delete the device description and re-create it. I have done that but the action pending flag is still set. This is the PTF for the UDO optical libraries. There is a another ptf to fix the support for the UDO drives but it requires the previous one to be applied first. The two PTF's are: MF33709 - Action pending MF33158 - Not applied I just tried to vary off all the optical drives and the PTF still show Action Pending. Here is the error message when trying to apply MF33158 Message ID . . . . . . : CPF36AC Severity . . . . . . . : 30 Message type . . . . . : Diagnostic Date sent . . . . . . : 12/09/04 Time sent . . . . . . : 07:33:58 Message . . . . : PTF 5722999-MF33158 V5R3M0 not applied. PTF 5722999-MF33709 V5R3M0 required. Cause . . . . . : Program temporary fix (PTF) 5722999-MF33158 V5R3M0 requires that PTF 5722999-MF33709 V5R3M0 is temporarily or permanently applied and active. PTF 5722999-MF33158 V5R3M0 cannot be applied until the required actions for PTF 5722999-MF33709 V5R3M0 are performed (which may require an IPL). Recovery . . . : Do the following and then try the request again: -- Load and apply PTF 5722999-MF33709 V5R3M0 if it is not loaded and either temporarily applied or permanently applied. -- If PTF 5722999-MF33709 V5R3M0 has an action required of yes, PTF 5722999-MF33158 V5R3M0 will need to be applied delayed. How can I clear that action flag? -----Original Message----- Hi, "Action Pending" PTFs are also called "No IPL PTF's". They would have been PTFs that required an IPL prior for V3R1, but no longer do. What you have to do is to see what action needs to be taken (like for a tape PTF, varying off all tape drives) is displaying the "action required", and after such, then the DSPPTF process for this automatically applies the PTF. These PTFs, while highly effective in decreasing downtime (IPL), have proven to be expensive to IBM, so they are not being used as frequently as they should be.
