I was going to ask some questions like this soon, too. I'm glad Oscar brought
it up.

I need to restore a V5R3 system back to V5R2. I have SAVE 21 backups from when
it was V5R2, but I did not do an apply *PERM before the save.

What if I restore from that backup using the opt #1 Doug mentioned? What will
be on my A side & B side? Will I only have LIC PTFs up to the point where I
last did a *PERM apply? Would I be able to reapply PTFs from my latest set of
CDs or is there a "PTF index" somewhere that will be out-of-sync and cause
problems?

Sorry to waste anybody's time because I haven't done my homework yet in the
Backup & Recovery docs, but since the subject came up I just thought I would
ask.

Thanks,
-Marty

The MFnnnn PTFs require that the microcode be restored. When you do your
alt IMPL use opt #1 not #2 to replace the LIC.
The other PTFs should be OK. I always apply ALL PTFs *PERM on the from
system and IPL before the save.
