Do companies actually do this? Backup onto a tape and leave it in the drive? There is no way I would do this. Once the backup is finished, the tape is removed and stored in the fire-resistant safe within a few minutes. Why would you leave your most current backups in the tape drive while older backups are stored in the safe? Am I crazy? No you are not crazy you are absolutely right Jeff, we actually use a 31 day cycle, (well in Feb, etc we don't use them all) the only thing for us is that sometimes they do weekend work so that is why we do a back up every day. The only time tapes are left in is on the weekend when I load 3 tapes. Otherwise it is a 100 km drive each way for me to change it, while I wouldn't really mind, the management are loathe to pay my travel and overtime. :-) Steve
