First off, there is absolutely no valid reason why the files in your ERP
application can't be journaled.

Journaling is difference than commitment control.  Commitment control needs
journaling, but journaling doesn't require or imply the use of commitment
control.  You have to modify applications to use commitment control.  But
you can start journaling without affecting anything.

Many shops, mine included, use journaling without commitment control for
auditing purposes.


Now having said that.  The problem is SQL server expects to be able to use
commitment control, which as mentioned above requires the files to be
journaled.  If you chose not to simply start journaling, then you need to
find out how to tell SQL server not to use commitment control (aka
transactioning on SQL server) when writing to the table linked to the
iSeries.

Unfortunately, I don't know off the top of my head how to do that.  It may
not even be possible.
