If you know that it's always going to be the same people or workstations every time, why not just have your program send the messages to those particular people/workstations. I wrote a short CL and put a CMD interface on it a while back that uses the QEZSNDMG API to send Break Messages to the User Id, instead of the Device Id, as the SNDBRKMSG does. Would this work? Of course, to me it sounds like something that SHOULD be in the Initial Program regardless to whether it's considered "sacred". Sometimes there are better (also simpler) ways to do things that should be done, and if it means breaking from tradition or a "sacred" procedure, then so-beit. Business/Organizations get into this (dangerous) mindset of "that's the way it's always been, and we're not changing" and sometimes causes more problems than are intended to prevent due to the wasted time and resources of coming up with a "better approach" than one that would change the "sacred" one. Believe me, I agree with the old addage of "If it ain't broke, don't try to fix it", but sometimes not "fixing" it inhibits progress. I'm considering using a break message handling program, which can be set up via the CHGMSGQ command, and then have a scheduled job send a message to the workstations at the proper times. First off, are there any other better methods for such a task? The more difficult problem with this method is that the CHGMSGQ command needs to be run every time a user logs into the workstation. At this site, the initial program is sacred for political reasons and must not be modified. How might I have a new job run a command without changing the initial program?
